THANK YOU!

THE COUNSELOR

Volume 7 • Issue 10 • November 2017

The Counselor is a monthly newsletter of Hallock & Hallock dedicated to providing useful information on estate planning, business succession planning and charitable planning issues.

This month we (Todd and Sara) thought we would be a little personal in our newsletter. We spent last week at the annual conference of the LDS Philanthropies Gift Planning Council. We have often written and spoken of the rejuvenation we get from attending this conference where we discuss the benefits and opportunities that exist for families when they engage in charitable planning. This year was no exception. We heard and learned from professionals from all over the country. We spent time on the technical things related to taxes and we spent time on the loftier aims of building and sometimes repairing family harmony.

Maybe because it is November and Thanksgiving is upon us, followed closely by Christmas, but we began to feel an immense amount of gratitude for the people we work with on a daily basis. We felt the need to thank all of you for the opportunities you have given us to be a part of your lives.

We are grateful for the people we work with here at Hallock & Hallock. These folks that make the wheels turn here in the office really are a joy. They care about us and they care about our Clients.

We are grateful for the other advisors that we work with. Without exception, the advisors we work with, be it accountants, financial advisors, insurance professionals or others are really seeking to do the best thing for their Clients. They work, often times under difficult pressures, to make things work for their Clients and families. They are truly exceptional.

We are grateful for each of our Clients. They truly become friends in so many ways. At times we are working with them at very tender moments in their lives. Even when we are not, they trust us with very sensitive things. We have been blessed to watch them work hard on behalf of children or grandchildren with special needs. We have been blessed to watch them labor over a wayward child in trying to help him/her back from the abyss. We have been blessed to watch them give of their fortune, be it large or small, to help others. Often this giving is done without fanfare or recognition. Each of you is amazing.

One of our favorite quotes is one from Gordon B. Hinckley quoting Jenkins Lloyd Jones: “Life is like an old-time rail journey—delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride.” At times when our Clients come to us they may feel like they are at a moment of speed, even if the vista is not necessarily beautiful. Thank you for trusting us to be part of that ride.

There are many difficult challenges out there, but there is so much more to be grateful for. We are grateful for each of you and so many others that make our lives wonderful.

Thank you!

Todd & Sara
