Where Your Treasure Is

For those of the Christian faith, today is observed as Good Friday.  Also known as Holy Friday, it is part of Holy Week and commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.  Easter Sunday and the preceding Holy Week are a sacred time for believers.  It is an opportunity to renew our faith and remember again events of that time culminating in His resurrection on Easter Sunday.

So often in our estate planning the focus is on the material things: money, property, and business.  But, when we leave this earth these things will not follow us.  I know a wise wealth advisor who when asked about what he is planning for answers: “I am planning for those things I can take with me.”  Our faith, our values, our knowledge, our relationships, our family.  These are the things of lasting value.  These are the things that we can take with us.  Yes, we need to address those material possessions, but we can do so in a way that truly promotes our core values and strengthens our families.  Jesus taught:

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”  Matthew 6:19-21

I hope you and your family have a great Easter.
